DIY Cymbal Stand Lamp

Earlier I promised you pictures of DIY cymbal stand lamp, so here they are. I used an old Millenium cymbal stand, Millenium clamp and a nice old table lamp for this mod. Cymbal stands boom has been already shortened earlier. On top of the stand I drilled a small hole for the wire so the wire would be inside the stand, or at least most of it. Then I unattached the tubes and put the wire inside. Of course I had to cut the wire at the bottom first, because the plug couldn't fit inside the tube.

I didn't have soldering iron and I used only tape so unfortunately this prototype was not save enough to be in use at long period. I've already defused this whole thing, but now I'm prepared to have cymbal stand lamp whenever I need it somewhere after I get right parts and equipment for a stable one. The lamps socket was a bit broken.

Aiemmin lupasin kuvia tee-se-itse symbaaliständilampusta ja tässähän näitä. Käytössäni oli vanha Millenium puomiständi ja vanha pöytälamppu. Puomi oli lyhennetty jo aiemmassa projektissani. Ständin yläosaan porasin pienen reiän johtoa varten, jotta se kulkisi nätisti ständin sisällä (tai ainakin suurin osa siitä). Sen jälkeen irroitin ständin varren ja katkaisin pätkän johtoa, koska plugi ei mahdu kulkemaan ständin sisältä. Sitten vain johto ständin läpi ja liitetään johdot takaisin yhteen toisessa päässä.

Käytössäni ei vielä ole kolvia, joten käytin tähän prototyyppiin vain johdon teippausta. Tämä härveli tuli jo purettua osiin odottamaan parempia päiviä ja aikaa jolloin saan kolvin ja sopivat osat kätösiini. Lampun kanta oli nimittäin hieman rikkinäinen, joten laite ei olisi pidemmän päälle turvallinen.

DIY Drum Stick Jewelry

I made some jewelry out from scrap. Feels good! I also made lamp out of an old cymbal stand and an old night lamp. Pictures of that coming soon!

Piece of Jewelry

"A week ago Karelian Warcry lost a significant part of it's essence.
Our guitarist, vocalist, mentor and a great friend Matti Mikkonen passed away. He was found dead at his home.

It goes without saying that he was a very important person to the whole band and the people around us. We will always remember the small grin on his face that was a reminder of his friendly character. No one will ever fully replace his stage presence and his amazing vocal sound. He was the most down to earth person that we have ever known and everyone we know liked him.

From now on every time we sit by the bonfire we will remember Matti as he used to be, just sitting there calmly beside us staring at the fire so intensively that the fire surely stared back. Tonight we empty our glasses with a bottomless sorrow in our hearts and so should you.

Cheers Matti, we will see you in the edge of the universe!"

He passing away + I've moved to Helsinki in August = ain't gonna make things easy for band activity. Luckily I found place where I can play drums every now and then, but I'm still missing my own rehearsal place, and Matti.

Brushing drumvival situation (DIY Drum Brush)

Here we are in typical survival situation:

You don't have any money. You can't borrow the money or lend the brushes, because you don't have any friends. You still want to have brushes to play with. Stealing is not an option.

All you got is this:

- broken drumstick
- a piece of thick stereo cable from worn out speakers
- almost an empty roll of duct tape or heat shrink tubing
- some glue
- wire cutter or knife
- drill

What you are going to do is this:

First strip of wires but leave some cover at the other end then twirl the wires to suitable turds. Drill hole to the end of drumstick for them. Add glue to the hole and stick the wire turds in. Use the miracle tape of Jesus Christ himself to strengthen the attachment. Voilà!
Now go find another broken stick so you can play with them brushes.

These didn't work out as good as I thought. Maybe using a bit stronger material like old guitar strings etc would help.

Trying to change

I tried to make some major changes for my blogs appearance. Somehow I managed to add the left sidebar background in the right place, but I couldn't find the way to do the same for the right side (with vertically flipped picture of course). Now it's floating somewhere lower until I get it there where I want it to be.
If someone out there knows the way to get it done, please help! I'm not a programmer although I've used html and css a bit.

I'm also plannig to update my banner up there, or what do you think about it?

Thinking to add some pictures later from artifacts I made from recyclied drumsticks, once again.

Proper drumming clothing (DIY Drum Clothing)

One night I couldn't sleep so I tried to dig some cool shape out of an old ragged black tank top. The whole process was done in the bathroom.

Here's how it goes:

1. First drew drumstick shapes to greaseproof paper with the help of your favorite drumsticks. I used Steve Gadd sticks and shortened the stick shape a bit. Use your imagination!

2. Then tape the pattern to the cloth roller cleaned shirt. I also placed thick cardboard inside the shirt, so bleach wouldn't go into backside of the shirt. Don't hesitate on this part! I did, so result aren't perfect.

3. Pour the bleach CAREFULLY in to the (small) spray bottle. Only bottle I found at that moment was a bit too small, but did the job fine after a couple of re-fillings.

4. Spray the bleach on the pattern. Leave the shirt for awhile and let the bleach do the job. Don't let animals or children anywhere near this process.

5. Come back, flush and rinse the shirt well on a sink or on the bathroom floor. Let the shirt dry. Remember that bleached clothes can ruin other clothes as well in the washing machine if not flushed properly!

6. Use black clothing marker to fix some parts if necessary.

7: Tada! New drumming shirt to put on to your next rehearsal or gig.

If you are planning to do something like this REMEMBER to:
 - be safe!
 - use gloves!
 - don't hesitate!
 - watch your eyes!
 - do it in the bathroom or somewhat similar space with a good ventilation!
 - use respirator if possible!
 - know what you are doing!

And again don't let animals or children anywhere near the bleaching process!

We'll be warming up Rotting Christ in 22th of November at a local rock bar Rytmi-Katti and we've been rehearsing some older songs for that gig. Its' nice to give some polishing to those songs. I've also been dreaming to re-record some of those songs again with updated skills and touch I have today. I also sampled my drumkit from the recordings I made back in the days. I didn't remember the clips sounded so awesome! Maybe I'll post some soundclips later.
